We want to show an honest picture of mental illness through a series of photos of people with mental illness. Everyone who experiences any amount of mental illness is included, as are those affected by mental illness. Sure, someone may “have it worse” than you. But your experience is still just as valid as theirs. Your experience with mental illness can be your own mental illness, or the mental illness of someone you care about. We want to hear your story, and share your image with the world, to show everyone that we are not alone. We are an endless family, we just don’t know everyone yet.
What are we looking for?
• If you are bold and honest with the world about your mental illness, send a photo of yourself, showing your face.
• If you want to participate but are unsure about how open you want to be, send a photo of you without showing your face.
• If even that is too much, send some photo or image of your own creation, expressing your mental illness to the world.
For everyone, along with your image, please consider sending a word, a sentence, or a paragraph describing how you are The Face of Mental Illness. Interpret this how you like.
If you send us anything, we promise to keep everything private. If you want us to share your name when we share your photo, we will. Otherwise we will keep it anonymous, and not share your information with anyone.
Also, if you send us anything, you must have the right to use it, and you grant us the non-exclusive right to use the image and words on this blog, in perpetuity, and in any future projects we do in the name of The Face of Mental Illness. You will retain copyright, however.
If you want to participate in this project, send us an email, or mail us a postcard or letter.
